(aq) Crunk Kicks
The last few weeks I have been deep at work with new tunes and productions. I wanted to keep this blog going, so I collected a bunch of the new Kicks I am using in my music. Sub Follower by PerforModule
I've really loved a lot of the free audio effect racks by PerforModule. We have been talking about doing a guest rack / effect for each other and I was stoked to see what he sent me. PerforModule put together a Live Pack that has a unique way of adding sub bass by sidechaining it to the Kick. A lot of people use the Sidechain of a Compressor or Gate to take out sub bass. In this case PerforModule is using it to add sub bass. The cool thing about this is it's also following whatever note you are playing in your bassline. That way the Sub Bass always works with the key your track is in. Here is an audio example of the effect: This Rack uses Operator, so you will need Suite to use it. (aq) Dub Drums
I have always loved the sound of dub, especially the groove found in deep dub. In all my music I have grabbed techniques and sounds from dub. In working on a new track I wanted to get some nice organic sounding drums in Ableton Live. I went back to an old recording I did at London Bridge, where we recorded a bunch of one shots with an antique drum kit. I edited it down to make a complex and adjustable drum rack. Below is a video that walks through the (aq) Dub Drums Light. There is also the One Shots and Dub Drum MIDI to download below. These can be used with any DAW. Push VST Bridge for Ableton
Straight out of the box Ableton Live Push is great for grabbing instruments and playing your heart out. If you are used to using third party VST's it can be a pain to add them. To make it easily navigated in Live you have to make an instrument rack with the VST in it. If you want to take it a step further you can map the macros and make it ready to use with push. If you have NI Komplete or any other massive amount of favorite VST's this can be quite a task. Luckily someone has already taken the time and done this. Audiomodder has a pack of all these VST's optimized for push. Below is a video that walks through how you can easily navigate through presets. Push Browser Hack .PCY
Dj Limbs just came out with a rad new hack for push. It makes the browsing make a little more sense. I love watching all these people improve on the scripts and the possibilities. Here is his video showing it off: He basically made a custom Python Script that you can install into your Ableton Push MIDI Scripts to add this feature.
