Growl Style Bass Patch
At the end of my 4 week Private Course I like to do a class built around sound design / or something else my student is trying to create. In finishing up my last class the student wanted to make some thick Growl Style Bass Patches. Together we sat down using FM synthesis and created a cool Instrument Rack. Here is a video walkthrough and free download below: Download Growl Style Bass
Quick and Easy Composition Tricks
When building up a track we can sometimes get lost on what is next. Where does this path lead? Do I put a drop in here? What is a Chorus part? There is a lot of possibilities of where your track can expand to when you are writing it. Because of this I have developed my own technique to help me stay creative when writing my own music. This is a really simple trick, but it can greatly speed up your writing and give you new ideas. So here is the basic idea. Make a midi track at the top of your set. Here you can add MIDI clips and name them after the part of the track. Here is just the BLANK midi Track:
Changing The World With Mushrooms and Music
Music has the ability to move the soul, convey deep emotion, and present abstract ideas in such a graceful form. I am honored to be a part of a group of musicians that have used their craft to help support a much needed cause of bioremediation in the Amazon. Mycelium Music is a collective of producers from around the world that have been inspired by the mycelial networks of the Pacific Northwest. They have released multiple compilation and albums. 100% of the proceeds going to the non-profit Amazon Mycorenewal Project. Last week, on the solstice, I was a part of the Mycelium Music's 4th Compilation. Along side amazing musicians like Moon Frog, Anchor Hill, Halo Refuser, and Drumspyder. Honored to be a part of the group and love using our expression to make such a positive change. Check out the new Subaqueous track featuring guitar by my long friend D'answer IsLove. An Enchanted Ensemble- With YAIMA & EROTHYME
This Wednesday, July 2nd I am honored to be apart of a really special event in Seattle. I will be playing with 2 amazingly talented producers. Yaima was born through the collaboration of producer Masaru Higasa, Folk lyricist Pepper Proud and Multi-Instrumentalist Jeff Kimes. Fusing the sounds of the ancients with the stories of our time. Yaima / Wander EP by Citta Flow I will also be sharing the stage again with Erothyme. Erothyme makes amazingly lush and beautiful music. His unique blend of jazzy blues influenced melodies and future glitch production lead to fantastic journeys. The Sound of One Grace Falling by Erothyme If you are in Seattle I highly suggest this show. I am honored to share the stage with such a beautiful and meticulously placed musicians. https://www.facebook.com/events/1453338371573676/ Tickets and infromation: http://tinyurl.com/p4tyc83
6 Mixing and Processing Tips
As a Professional Producer in it for the long hall we are always looking to improve our mix. It’s never “perfect” and there are always tricks and things you can learn to get faster, and better at mixing. Here is a list of a few Tricks I’ve learned along the 8 years of mixing and mastering in Ableton live. 1. JUST THE RIGHT EQ, NOT TO MUCH! Lowpass and Highpass can sharpen your mix, if used right. There are two techniques here. First being Low Pass. If you have a bright guitar you might think having all that high end is good, but staking it on top of all the other high end might make it seem harsh and not “bright” so cutting off the top lets the clear frequencies through and leaves room for the hats, or anything else you need be more in the realm of shimmers and accents.
Youtube Killed the Video Star and hurts Electronic Musicians
YouTube Music is about to launch and with it comes a big change for independent and underground musicians. Just so we get off on the right foot, it’s going to suck… Youtube is going to release a new service called YouTube Music in the summer of 2014. This service will be similar to Spotify and other streaming. The problem with this changeover is YouTube has been working on deals with the big labels to make it worth it and leaving the smaller labels to deal with their new terms of agreement. Not only that, but YouTube has now threatened to block the content of any independent label that declines to sign their non-negotiable contracts.
