Vintage Roland Tr-909 Drum Rack

December 15th, 2015|

The TR-909 Drum machine is a legend. This instrument has been featured in hundreds of tracks ranging from electronics to hip hop. I love using this vintage sound in my tracks. It adds a nostalgic and interesting sound.  I had the opportunity to record the TR-909 and build an easy to use Live Drum Rack for my own music, and decided to share it with the world. About the 909 The Roland TR-909 has been in a lot of classic tracks over the year. From oldschool Orbital tracks,  new trap beats, and even pop music. The Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer is a partially analog, partially sample-based, drum machine introduced by the Japanese Roland Corporation in 1984.The brainchild of Tadao Kikumoto, the engineer behind the Roland TB-303, it features a 16-step step sequencer and a drum kit that aimed for realism and cost-effectiveness. It is fully programmable, and like its predecessor, the TR-808, it can store entire songs with multiple sections, as opposed to simply storing patterns. - WIKIPEDIA To give you a taste of what the 909 sound like here are a few tracks i've loved that feature

November 24th, 2015|

When I am producing music, it's all about getting ideas out fast and staying in the flow. Over the last 7 years of professionally producing music I have learned some tricks that have helped me bang out new tracks. One of them is around MIDI editing and bouncing it down to audio. Here is a quick 2min video on the technique.

17 Free Trap and Dubstep Drum Loops with the Beat Builder

November 23rd, 2015|

When I am in the studio working on a new track, speed is really important. I don’t want to get stuck spending the whole day on one aspect of the song. I want to keep flowing with it and build out the track. The last few months I have been working on new tunes. Along the way I developed a new workflow and way of making beats in my production. I decided to polish it up and share it with the community here. I find that dragging and dropping a beat gets the idea out quick and then I can go to town on it. I’ve created tons of beats and picked the best ones in Trap, Dubstep, and Hip Hop. The full Trap and Dubstep Beat Builder includes 19 Full Drum Loops, 98 solo drum loops, and 38 MIDI files. To get you started with the idea below is a link to 4 Full Drum Loops and there Solo drum loops for free download. Download Demo Here is an intro video to the concept.

Creatively Using Warp Modes for Sound Design – Free Video Series

November 17th, 2015|

Sound design is one of the funniest things to do as a music producer. Being able to mangle a sound and bend it to your will is an awesome feeling. Hvw you ever wondered some of the techniques that Halfred used in his Free Effects Library or the Animatronix in his Sound Wizards FX samples, then read on. Warp Modes are my weapon of choosing to do this. When most people think of Warp Modes they either don’t know what it is, or just know how to set it to stretch their audio, but there is a lot more that you can use them for. I put together a free video series on using Warp Modes creative and wanted to share this with y’all. I walk through the basics of each Warp Mode and then take it to the extreme. I use the distorting effects of Warping to my advantage in sound design. In this article you are going to find a download link to grab the Ableton Live Sets I use as examples in the video. The download is by donation. I’ve put

Saying No to Collaberation – How to show respect

November 16th, 2015|

In the last 3 months I have had a lot of people approach me about collaboration. I have been processing what that might mean, how to respectfully tell them no, and understanding the subtleties of the interaction. I was inspired to put together this video around my process. I hope to inspire a respectful and vibrant creative community, even by saying no. If you have a story of saying no, or being slighted in a collaboration please feel free to share the story in the comments bellow.  Love to hear the ideas and thoughts from the community on this.
